'Bad Romance' (140 x 100 x 2 cm, 2023) captures the essence of Empedocles' philosophical concept of 'Strife' within the framework of his four-element philosophy. He believed that two opposing forces were responsible for the interaction and transformation of the four elements: fire, water, air and earth.

 

The work delves into the profound contrast between love and strife. In this composition, the artist skillfully explores the dissonant emotions that arise when love turns to conflict. Strife is the force that drives the elements apart and separates them. It leads to discord and chaos. The cut-out shape aims to capture this feeling. This fabric originates from an old painting which the artist never finished. The robust structures add depth to the narrative of the painting.
